  61.                           Design Goals
  62.                                 
  63.      SoftKBD was created in the hope of providing motor
  64.      impaired individuals with an opportunity to use a
  65.      powerful computing environment for personal and
  66.      professional gain.
  67.      
  68.      Using an on-screen keyboard and a mouse, or mouse like
  69.      pointing device, a user simply "points & clicks" to
  70.      enter information in Microsoft Windows applications.
  71.      
  72.      As a disabled individual I know the very high cost of
  73.      special devices for the handicapped. Therefore, SoftKBD
  74.      is released as Shareware for a $20 registration fee.

  78.                       SoftKBD Requirements

  80.                             HARDWARE:

  82. COMPUTER: An 80386SX or higher processor, IBM or Compatible
  83.           PC, capable of running the Microsoft Windows
  84.           Graphical Environment.
  85. DISPLAY:  An EGA, VGA, or better, graphics adapter and
  86.           monitor. (a resolution of 800 X 600 is
  87.           recommended.)
  88. MOUSE:    A mouse, or other pointing device, that Windows
  89.           recognizes. A pointing device may include:
  90.           lightpen, trackball, joystick, or any other
  91.           pointing device that has a Windows 3.x compatible
  92.           device driver.

  119.      This document is not intended to be a Windows tutorial!
  120.      If you are unfamiliar with using Windows, I suggest you
  121.      use the environment and read at least chapters 1 and 2
  122.      of the Microsoft Windows User Guide.

  124.                        Installing SoftKBD
  125.                                 
  126.      From Program Manager, or File Manager, run Setup to
  127.      install SoftKBD.
  128.      
  129.      File Manager Example:
  130.      
  131.      Switch to the drive and directory where you have
  132.      SoftKBD's files and double click SETUP.EXE.
  133.      
  134.      Program Manager Examples:
  135.      
  136.      1. If you downloaded SoftKBD from a BBS and/or ran the
  137.      self extracting archive on your hard drive:
  138.      
  139.      From Program Manager select File, Run, and type
  140.      d:\<path>\setup and click OK. Note: replace d: with
  141.      your hard drive's letter (usually c:) and replace
  142.      <path> with the directory path of SoftKBD's Setup
  143.      program.

  145.      2. If you are installing from a diskette:
  146.      
  147.      From Program Manager select File, Run, and type d:setup
  148.      and click OK. Note: replace d: with the letter of the
  149.      floppy you are installing from (usually A: or B:).
  150.      
  151.      The Setup program will copy all the files SoftKBD
  152.      needs. It will also create a new program group for
  153.      SoftKBD and install its icon, an icon for this file,
  154.      and an icon for SoftKBD's help file.

  157.                          Running SoftKBD
  158.                                 
  159.      Open the program group that SoftKBD's icon is in.
  160.      Double click the SoftKBD icon to run.
  161.      
  162.      Note:
  163.      
  164.      If you want SoftKBD to run each time you start Windows,
  165.      copy SoftKBD's icon to your StartUp Group. If you want
  166.      SoftKBD placed on-screen where it was last time you
  167.      used it, be sure the Run Minimized box is unchecked. If
  168.      you want SoftKBD run as an icon, make sure the Run
  169.      Minimized box is checked.

  171.                           Using SoftKBD
  172.                                 
  173.      Once SoftKBD is running, switch back to Program Manager
  174.      and start the Windows application you want to use
  175.      SoftKBD with.
  176.      
  177.      You may have to size the application's window so you
  178.      can see both SoftKBD's display area and the
  179.      application's display area.
  180.      
  181.      To use SoftKBD to "type" information into your
  182.      application, simply point at the appropriate key and
  183.      press (click) your mouse button.
  184.      
  185.      IMPORTANT NOTE: The application you want to type
  186.      information into must be the active application. In
  187.      Windows the active application has its title bar
  188.      highlighted (usually in blue). See the Windows User
  189.      Manual for more information.
